“…The outcome was beyond what I expected. My townhome sold in less than 3 days with multiple offers resulting in a sale price above the original asking price. I credit Melissa for her knowledge and exceptional ability to communicate in creating the aesthetic appeal and the subsequent sale of my townhome. I recommend Melissa Smith Spaces not only for home staging but for her capability to envision an end result worthy of the label “home”.

“I am writing a testimonial on behalf of Melissa Smith Spaces.  Melissa came to my house several weeks ago to do a Feng Shui consultation.  First off I must say that Melissa is one of those people who just has aphoto light about her.  She has such an easy and comforting way that she put me immediately at ease from the moment she walked in the door.  We sat down and she explained what she was going to do during the consult and asked what specific areas that I wanted to concentrate on.

She started with a traditional rice blessing where we walked around the perimeter of my property and recited a blessing and scattering rice. At first I felt a little silly walking around in my yard throwing rice but with Melissa’s guidance that quickly dissipated and I got into the spirit of the ritual.  I noticed later that night I felt more at ease and calm in the night. I often wake up and am restless at night but I believe the ritual brought some calm to my home.

We then went inside and walked through each room. Melissa explained the significance of each room and gave me suggestions for changes that would help the space to work better and enhance a specific area of my life.  The three areas where we spent extra time were on my marriage area, wealth and financial area, career area and creativity and children area.  Melisse took pictures and made notes on each area.  A few days later she sent me a document outlining each area with pictures and suggestions for changes I could make.

I felt very inspired after Melissa’s visit to start making the changes she suggested.  I started with the porch area and entry way for Melissa said this was the most important part of the home where we invite in positive energy.  It was very cluttered and messy, full of kids toys and other junk.  Over the next week, I cleared away the clutter, added some plants by the front door, had a dying tree in our front yard removed, hung up some inviting decorations in porch area and made a red wreath for the front door and hung up a new wind chime.  These changes alone made a big impact.  My husband’s business was stalling and a huge contract we had been waiting for over a year to finalize come through the week I made these changes!

Some other changes I made were in the front hallway where there used to be about four mismatched rugs and a big box of shoes right inside the doorway so that you would just about trip over them as you walked in. Melissa talked about the importance of having a clear way for the positive energy to enter the house. I cleared it all away, putting down one long rug and having the shoes in boxes out of the line of energy coming in the front door. There is also a door in our entry way that is locked shut.  She explained a blocked doorway can be bad energy she suggested putting a mirror up.  I did put up some mirrors on the blocked door and noticed a difference immediately! It changed the whole feeling of the room.

I also made changes to our bedroom.  We had mismatched furniture and also stuff from my past that didn’t belong in our lives anymore.   I put matching bedside tables and lamps in our room and sold an old dresser from my past.  I put a neutral bedspread on our bed per Melissa’s suggestion that there was too much fire in our room.  We needed neutrals to balance out the intensity.  I took down some things on the walls that I was tired of too.  These changes completely transformed the room.  It is so much more of an enjoyable place to be now.  I used to only want to be in my room to sleep, now I want to hang out in there and just relax.  We have some more changes to make in our room but I already feel like it’s becoming a more restful, balanced and nurturing space.

I still have many other changes that I would like to make but for now I feel that we have a made a good start.  We have already seen and felt positive changes in our lives since Melissa’s consult.  I believe we will continue to feel the effects of these changes for some time.  I am excited for the changes  we have yet to make and feel confident that the more we are living in a positive harmonious space the more positive our lives will become.  It’s all connected.

Thank you Melissa for sharing your knowledge and insight with us to help enhance and balance out our living space and add more positive energy to our lives. You are making a difference in people’s lives by the work you do.  We thank you.”

“I have never been one to be found meditating, or doing yoga or anything that involves breathing and stopping for a moment to take in my surroundings and tap into my inner chi.

jodyso when one of my besties started taking courses years ago in feng shui i would just nod my head in support – but what the heck?! feng shui?? but i pretended to totally get it. i was hip. i was with all things happening in the eastern culture. i have ordered tea (but secretly hated it) i have done yoga (but can barely touch my toes) i have even meditated (or have i?) so when melissa was certified in feng shui and opened her adorable biz – Melissa Smith Spaces – i was super happy!! but too embarrassed to really admit that I didn’t have the faintest in what that meant! BUT i wanted to learn. you see- in my family they think of me as the worldly one. HA – so i had a reputation to uphold and what better way than to tell my family i was having a feng shui consultant come out! i’m that cool.  so out comes Melissa to my humble little abode. and i was excited and not sure what to expect – my husband was laughing at me. chanting, rice blessings. mmmm- whatever jody. whatever. but one thing i did know is that there were areas in my life that I definitely felt needed improvement and it couldn’t hurt to just buy into it and see what happens. right? RIGHT!

Melissa’s visit left me chanting to myself when i get worked up, reading every feng shui article she blogs about and wanting more!!! we decided to hone in on 2 main areas in my life, my career and brad and i – to start my career hasn’t been bad at all. quite the opposite actually. BUT i needed help with my focus. i was all over the place. Best Buy, Photography, Best Buy, Photography. going nuts. what do i want to do. – sooo we focused  in on this area right away- the front entryway. and to my delight she said we already had a super duper leg up because we had an extended career area- our door is jutted out- whoop whoop. she gave us a few things to do. clear the clutter, fix the door (chipped paint) remove a tree branch and dead plant, and put away brad’s bowling ball blocking the door for starters. but she went much deeper- paint colors to focus on, lines in furniture, artwork for the walls. i was taking notes furiously but she sent me a fab write-up afterwards complete with pictures and what i need to do. and she totally gets that until my wedding season is over i cant do much. but I did what i could and you know what. I had a goal to get published on some pretty big wedding blogs this year- and that very week I received the email that I was being published on Style Me Pretty and Wedding Chicks!!! eek! the two biggest blogs on my list! WAHOO! coincidence? i think not! I am so excited to get going on the bigger changes, changing our paint color. fixing the doorbell, getting a new flag for outside – (to name a few) and we’ll see what happens next. I really need some clarity on what I should be doing. And Brad wants to retire to golf. HA HA…

…And then we moved onto our relationship areas. With all the work in our lives and two small kids,  it’s very very hard to focus on the most important relationship in my life. Brad and I. And low and behold when I saw how I was treating our relationship area – well it was easy to see why we had not been on the same page for a while. And you know what was the cutest. After Melissa left I told Brad what she had recommended we do for the area- and he took it seriously and instantly helped me clean up the area and declutter. and you know what. my summer has been more insane than ever. but brad and my relationship- rock solid. again another coincidence? I don’t think so.

So this is just part one. I cant wait to really dig in and finish up all of the other recommendations and suggestions Melissa left me with in our report. I love how customized it was. She really listened to the areas I wanted to focus on and not only told me what to do, but also why! After she left I finally felt like I knew what Feng Shui was about- and I was excited. I have only made small changes so far and I’ve got a husband who is the best partner ever and my photography is leaving me feeling so so blessed. I am so lucky. Cant wait to see what comes next. And you can read about Melissa’s experience with our consult on her blog here.

And you know what. When my kids are about to drive me over the edge I have found myself chanting a little chant Melissa taught me – and crazily enough it calms me down.

There may be something to this feng shui stuff. stay tuned! if you’re a little curious I love this article Melissa linked to- she had talked about a lot of the same tips on our consult. Makes so much sense! You can read it here.

And I urge you to look Melissa up and reach out. She is a life changer. No kidding! I have no doubt that in no time at all with Melissa’s expert help my home will be transformed into a peaceful, comfortable, lovely space to live. Ever since Melissa was here – it just feels really good to be home- and that is the best benefit of all!”
